There is absolutely no reason for the Fediverse to have content warnings. When I see a post or picture that is hidden by a CW, it only serves as a psychological trick that gets me to click on it to see what's behind the CW. In short, I'm more likely to interact with a post if it has a CW, maybe it's just me and I'm weird. #fediverse #mastodon
This article published in “ The New Yorker” also refers a lot to #Mastodon. Especially this paragraph is worth thinking about IMHO:
“Decentralization still provides corners in which dark ideas can fester, but knowing that there’s a neo-Nazi Mastodon instance out there somewhere may be preferable to encountering neo-Nazis in your Twitter mentions. The Internet may work better when it’s spread out, as originally designed.”
But for me it seems a little bit problematic to have #Rails / #Ruby apps running on Debian dist upgrades when all those apps need such special handling. Ideally everything should work after a dist-upgrade. Or #Mastodon should detect a broken environment and do the needed steps itself, especially because these are the steps that are required to do by nearly every update of Mastodon.
Ok, sorry for the few hours of unavailability due to the upgrade....
This is what happened: 1) Upgrading to Mastodon 2.8.1 ✅ 2) Upgrading to Debian Buster ✅ 3) Rebooting to Debian Buster ❌
Actually, the #Mastodon service couldn't be started by systemd, because #Ruby got update to 2.5.1 while upgrading to #Buster and Mastodon needed bundle install && yarn install && a bundle exec rails assets:precompile
Extra challenge: find a VNC viewer that works with Mac and produes a "-"
Content warning: Hubzilla's #NomadicIdentity model: Multiple identities ("channels") per account, as opposed to the inefficiency and inscalability of the current 1-to-1 model, examplified:
Hi @danie10, I just went through your last month of (interesting) boosts and boosted what I found relevant via my various focused #Mastodon accounts (I have a similar "demo setup" on Twitter) as a visualization and demonstration of why multiple "channels" are useful, but more importantly to illustrate why we need multiple such "identities" (read: "channels") per ACCOUNT.
Some of them was interesting on a personal/health level, some related to tech, some for future perspective and development of society, etc.
This is what the #nomadicidentity concept of #Hubzilla is all about, and I am currently in the process of shifting over to that now.
I wonder how/when efficiency apps such as #Fedilab, #Tusky and #AndStatus will adapt to accomodate multiple identities ("channels") per account, as opposed to the inefficiency and inscalability of the current 1-to-1 model.
